Hey, it’s Sarah Kay!
Hi there! My name’s Sarah and I am a singer, actor, and dancer based in New York City. I was born and raised just outside of Los Angeles, California in a town called Simi Valley. I wasn’t the type of performer who came tap dancing out of the womb. In fact, I was too shy to even do any sort of performing at all. Instead, I flocked to sports like track & field and kept my focus on academics. When it came to deciding what I wanted to do for a career, it only made sense for me to pursue a career in medicine. I dedicated my high school career to taking the hardest classes, founding and forefronting clubs like GEMS (Girls Excelling in Math and Science), and creating the most impressive academic resume for college admissions.
However, I’ve always felt this desire to perform. The summer I was admitted to the University of California, Santa Barbara as a Biology major, I decided to conquer not only my greatest fear, but also my greatest desire to perform in a musical.
Performing for the first time felt like that scene in Ratatouille where Remy sees fireworks eating his food (if you know you know. If not…I’ve also attached for reference). After a quarter-life crisis, I realized that I had to pursue theatre as a career. Connecting with people through storytelling is the epitome of humanity, and I knew my passion for storytelling was better off on stage than in a lab.
I transferred from UCSB to Pace University to pursue my BFA in theatre in 2019 and hunkered down to learn everything about acting, singing, and dancing. My first professional job was being a part of the Original Broadway Cast of Here Lies Love.
Even though I left biology, I treat every show process as a science experiment. We get to investigate characters, experiment during rehearsals, and communicate our story to audiences.
